Train-the-Trainer workshops coming to the Southern Tier in spring 2013

Three Digital Literacy train-the-trainer workshops have been scheduled for the Southern tier region for the spring of 2013. Look for workshops at Moore Memorial Library, Greene, NY (March 11); Southern Tier Library System, Painted Post, NY (March 27); and in Ithaca, NY on May 23.

US Digital Literacy – 3 Ways Obama Administration Fueling Tech Revolution

During this week’s announcement about new digital literacy training services, FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski said, “Offline Americans are missing out on education opportunities, health care opportunities and, yes, job opportunities.” Certainly there is no doubt that being connected to online Internet has emerged as the most important element in achieving progress in any field today.

But almost one third of Americans do not have Internet access at home. Many families are unable to pay for Internet access. The Obama administration has already invested $7 billion in expanding broadband services across the country and improving connectivity especially in rural areas.  More...

Redemtech Launches PC Donation Campaign to Support FCC Digital Literacy Effort

PC Pledge 100 encourages businesses to donate used computers to help Americans narrow the digital divide through Connect2Compete

Redemtech, a world leader in IT Asset Disposition, today joined with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Julius Genachowski and Connect2Compete (C2C) to launch PC Pledge 100, a nationwide campaign to close the digital divide through corporate donations of used computers. Redemtech kicked off the drive by pledging 200 computers to the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) and an additional 100 computers for nonprofits focused on digital literacy.
